The brochure and website Delicious South-Eastern Finland have been produced by the local food association Lähiruuan Ystävät ry (Friends of Local Food, Lyry in short). We are known for the Elimäki local food fair, which we arrange annually on the second weekend of September.
The association was established in April 2011 to promote local food and to help producers and buyers of local food find each other. All consumers, producers and companies interested in local food can join the association.
Lyry is active in promoting the co-operation between companies, organisations and projects working with local food. The efforts are currently concentrated in South-Eastern Finland, but there are good contacts with the other parts of the country, too. We are happy to expand our network to other local food associations and projects, so let’s be in touch!
“Löydä läheltä” information project
The website Delicious South-Eastern Finland has been created within the “Löydä läheltä” (Find it close) information project, which the association Lähiruuan Ystävät ry is implementing in 2012 and 2013. We want to highlight the superb producers and processors of food as well as enterprises selling local delicacies in Kymenlaakso and South Karelia.
Another objective is to make the companies find each other and jointly introduce food produced in South-Eastern Finland to local people and visitors alike. Information on the relevant companies can be found easily on the website also using mobile devices, and there is also access to the companies’ own websites.
The information project has been co-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development through funding granted by the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Southeast Finland, and by the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners South-East Finland.
